Airport Musings

I got an early flight out of Dayton to Chicago. The only problem is that they didn't have an early flight out of Chicago to Oklahoma City, so I got stuck hanging out in the Chicago airport for four hours. Luckily, they have my favorite restaurant here, Chilis.

I got there to get some food and make a bunch of calls - any break from politics is life maintenance time - and as I'm about to sit down, this older woman turns around and asks me if I'm by myself. I said yes, so she asked if I wanted to join her and offered to share her chips and queso.

Odd. But what does it hurt? She was very nice, was on her way to Pittsburgh and DC to visit family. She told me she was glad I came in because she didn't really like eating by herself. I have gotten over that years ago, because if I didn't eat by myself I wouldn't get about 40% of my meals when I'm on the road. It was interesting to me that the prospect of her eating alone was more bothersome than the prospect of asking some random stranger to join her for dinner. Oh well, this friend of mine told me I have a very approachable face - yet more evidence to support his theory.

So here's the question for you: would you rather eat alone or ask a random stranger to eat with you at the airport? Which is more awkward.

I definitely go w/ eating alone. But I do really like myself. haha.

Next question: where did the lawn goose originate?

There were so many of them in Dayton. You can see my profile picture on Facebook for an example. And people dress them for all the seasons. It's crazy. People were like, "Oh I have a whole basket of clothing for it."

So if anyone knows the origination of the lawn goose phenomenon, I'd love to hear the story. According to some random website it's "the thing" for your Midwestern suburban lawn.

Oh, and you can name it and give it a gender.
