Unemployment is Divine

My last day with the Clinton campaign was Friday. So after more than 10 months out on the campaign trail, I'm left with nothing to do but sleep and go to the gym. And honestly, I'm not complaining. It was an amazing journey that I'm so happy I was a part of, but I'm tired. Very very tired.

You try to explain campaign life to people who don't do it, and I'm just not sure they ever really understand. Can anyone actually comprehend what it's like to work every single day for 10 months. Every single day. Not just Monday through Friday, but Monday through Sunday. I always used to say that Friday was, in theory, the end of the week for me. Because the week never ends, so Friday just becomes more symbolic than anything else.

I started in Iowa on July 31. I had 2 days off in the month of August, 2 days off in the month of September, Thanksgiving Day off, Christmas Day off. That's about it. After that my "days off" were days I spent driving or flying hundreds or thousands of miles to get to the next state we had to play in.

The worst thing about the one day off you get every month or so was cramming all the life maintenance into that time. I'd usually sleep late, then go to the grocery store, get my car serviced, get my car washed, get a haircut, go buy shampoo and other essentials, and maybe pick up a new piece of clothing. By the end of the day I just wanted to sleep some more. But you had to be right back at work the next day.

Truly, a chapter of my life is closing. I guess technically it closed on Saturday when Hillary asked us all to do whatever we could to get Barack Obama into the White House. I'm going to pause for a little bit before I open the next chapter though. I need a break and some time to decide where I want that chapter to take me.

In the meantime, if you need me, I'll either be sleeping or at the gym.
